So another country sees the beginning of a new chapter on the food and wine tour. The next chosen country is a very worthy culinary beacon in the world… France. Having had what I can only describe as an obsession, or rather a fascination, with everything French since I was a teenager, I am delighted to be discovering it in a new way over the next month. The lifestyle, the art and the culture, the stunning villages and countryside, and most essential to this tour… the cuisine.
Beginning in the capital of Paris, following the river and the scattered chateaux along the Loire Valley, down the West coast through fishing villages and the rich cuisine of the Dordogne on route to the prestigious Bordeaux. Then heading East passing through Toulouse, to The Rhone Valley and wine tasting our way up through the vineyards of Burgundy to the capital of cuisine, Dijon. A quick hop over to Raymond Blanc’s origins of Franche Comte for some cheese tastings, then back to Paris for some market visits and back up North, stopping in Lille for moules frites, to homeland in England.
This immense distance will be travelled with my friend Gala in our little car (with two terracotta pigs and two monkeys), giving us the flexibility to stop at small off the beaten track producers and thus facilitating a more authentic and organic experience of the raw products essential to the French kitchen.
